Reviewing our area’s weather stations shows it is 65 at the Highlands Newspaper, 67 at Cashiers Lake, and 64 at the top of old Baldy in Sapphire Valley. Cassidy we’ll cover a more detailed weather report later in this episode.
Here is some news out of Highlands before we find some fun.
First up Infrastructure Updates: Mirror Lake Dredging & Data Centers
Just a short drive over to Highlands, the Town Board of Commissioners recently held their monthly meeting to hammer out some key projects. The two big talking points? The town is analyzing fresh engineering data for the Mirror Lake dredging project, which is crucial for maintaining the area's beautiful waterways. At the same time, local leaders are navigating the modern era by weighing new regulations regarding data centers coming into the local area.
Back to Cashiers, the High-End Antiquing Returns
For our treasure hunters and interior design lovers, the countdown is officially on. The 48th Annual Cashiers Antique Show is returning this week. This iconic event draws collectors from all over the Southeast to browse high-end European antiques, vintage goods, and rare mountain-chic decor—including some incredible, historic 19th-century Swiss Black Forest wood carvings. If you want to take a piece of the mountains home with you, this is where you need to be.
In public safety news, a quick reminder to stay safe out on the water and in the woods. Early last Saturday morning, emergency crews from Cashiers, Highlands, Lake Toxaway, and Cullowhee responded to a severe house fire near Lake Glenville. Fortunately, the home on Woods Mountain Trail was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported, but the structure was a complete loss. A huge shoutout to our local volunteer fire departments who worked through the night to protect the surrounding forest and neighboring properties.

Hey guys, finally, the summer music scene on the Plateau is reaching its peak! The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival is hosting the renowned Borromeo String Quartet at Lewis Hall at The Village Green. If your taste leans a bit more casual, you can catch the final, exclusive outdoor Orchard Sessions featuring Shane Meade & the Sound Trio over at The Farm at Old Edwards Inn or simply head down to Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park on Saturday night for the completely free Saturdays on Pine concert series.

Get ready to pack your rain gear and umbrellas if you are heading to the beautiful North Carolina plateau over the next four days. Visitors exploring Highlands, Cashiers, and Sapphire Valley can expect a very consistent, wet summer pattern with cloudy skies and a daily threat of afternoon showers and heavy thunderstorms. The high elevation will keep daytime temperatures remarkably comfortable, reaching afternoon highs between seventy-two and seventy-six degrees across all three mountain destinations. Once the sun goes down, the rainy weather will taper off into a damp, humid evening filled with patchy fog and crisp overnight lows hovering steadily between fifty-eight and sixty-three degrees.
If you are planning to hit the trails or explore the waterfalls, your best bet is to pack a Waterproof rain jacket, Sturdy hiking boots and A reliable umbrella.
