This is Radio Cashiers — where the mountains come alive, and family fun starts here.
This audio cast covers the week starting Monday, January 12th.
Let’s start on the slopes.
Ski Sapphire Valley is the place to be this weekend, especially with colder temperatures helping get conditions in good shape.
For the upcoming MLK holiday weekend, look for extended hours, night skiing, and always-popular cosmic tubing after dark.
If you’re planning a visit, be sure to check the daily snow report before heading out, but things are lining up nicely for winter fun all weekend long. Friday night will be very special! Show your school spirit and wear your favorite college colors for a fun night on the mountain! Head to the Slopeside Tavern for the College Night Party, where DJ FAZE will be spinning crowd favorites and high-energy hits all night long. It’s the perfect après-ski spot to unwind, dance, and celebrate with friends.
During the week, take some time to enjoy the quieter side of winter. Panthertown Valley offers crisp hiking conditions with fewer crowds this time of year. Trails like the Greenland Creek or Schoolhouse Falls are great options for a peaceful winter walk—just remember sturdy footwear and layers. Winter hikes here offer beautiful views and a sense of calm you don’t get in peak seasons.
Heading west to Highlands, you’ll find a great mix of outdoor beauty and small-town culture. Sunset Rock and Whiteside Mountain are popular year-round, and on clear days, winter views can be absolutely stunning. The cooler air makes for rewarding hikes, even if you’re just going a short distance.
Highlands also offers excellent dining options this time of year, with restaurants providing warm, inviting atmospheres—ideal for lingering over a meal. Check for live music nights or special events at local venues throughout the week, as winter schedules often feature intimate performances.
