Hello again, this is Anna Lee with Radio Cashiers! This audio cast is for the week starting Jan 19th.
As we travel and explore new places, Martin Luther King Jr. Day invites us to pause and reflect on a legacy that shaped not just history, but the spirit of our communities. Dr. King’s vision of equality, justice, and unity reminds us that meaningful journeys are not only measured in miles, but in understanding, compassion, and respect for one another. As you enjoy the beauty and hospitality of your travels this weekend, may his message inspire us to build bridges and leave every place—and every person—we encounter a little better than we found them.
Here are a few ideas for you to explore this week.

Coming in a couple of weeks on February 7th is the popular Great Outhouse Races at Ski Sapphire Valley! The Great Outhouse Races at Ski Sapphire Valley is an annual winter event where participants compete in decorated outhouses on skis. The race typically involves teams of at least three people, with one person skiing, or shall we say 'pooping’ while sitting in the outhouse and the others pushing the outhouse from behind to get started. This is always a family favorite.
Hi, this is Cassidy, your Radio Cashiers weather girl, with guidance from our partners at the National Weather Service. Confidence is growing that a significant winter weather event will impact the Highlands, Cashiers, and Sapphire Valley this weekend. Travelers should be prepared for hazardous road conditions, and scattered power outages are possible, with impacts potentially lingering into early next week depending on how quickly snow and ice melt.
Cold, blustery conditions may follow, with wind chills dropping sharply from Monday night into Tuesday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory could be issued if these conditions develop as expected. Radio Cashiers will continue to share updates as needed, but be sure to stay informed as this evolving system takes shape.
